Bush doesn’t believe Bible to be literally true

I mentioned in an earlier post that I didn’t believe George W. Bush was a true Christian based on his actions as President. Remember – Jesus taught us that it’s not what people say that will show us the truth – it’s what they do. Here we see another indication that George W. Bush isn’t following God and does not know Him. Not surprisingly, we’re not hearing this during a campaign – we’re hearing it now that he’s leaving office. Still – the President’s words confirm what his actions have shown us for a long time – he is not a Christian and never has been.

How can I be sure? Because no child of God would ever deny the authority of Scripture. Those regenerated by God know that it is inspired by God – and not just a few verses that we pick and choose – all of it.

And just so we’re clear – Christians do not pray to the same God as every other religion. We do not pray to idols – we pray to the one, true God. To Him and Him only.

US President George W Bush has said he does not take the Bible literally though he believed that God created the world.

Talking to ABC’s Nightline program on Dec 8, Bush said his belief that God created the world is not incompatible with scientific proof of evolution.

He said he probably is not a literalist when reading the Bible although an individual can learn a great deal from it, including the New Testament teaching that God sent his only son. In the program, he was asked about creation and evolution. Answering the question, Bush said: “I think you can have both. I think evolution can — you're getting me way out of my lane here. I'm just a simple president. But it’s, I think that God created the earth, created the world; I think the creation of the world is so mysterious it requires something as large as an almighty and I don’t think it’s incompatible with the scientific proof that there is evolution.”

However, he was quick to add that he believed that the evolution theory did not fully explain the mystery of life. ABC’s interviewer Cynthia McFadden then asked Bush if the Bible was literally true.Bush: “You know. Probably not. ... No, I'm not a literalist, but I think you can learn a lot from it, but I do think that the New Testament for example is ... has got ... You know, the important lesson is ‘God sent a son’.”

Bush gave a brief testimony as well: “It is hard for me to justify or prove the mystery of the Almighty in my life. All I can just tell you is that I got back into religion and I quit drinking shortly thereafter and I asked for help. ... I was a one-step program guy.”

The US president also said that he prays to the same God as those with different religious beliefs. You got it wrong there, Mr. President!

What the Bible says:

The Bible is inspired by God Himself: All scripture [is] given by inspiration of God, and [is] profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness: (2 Timothy 3:16)

There's only One God:

Hear, O Israel: The LORD our God [is] one LORD. (Deuteronomy 6:4)

The Way to Him is Jesus:

Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me. (John 14:6)

Therefore do not be ashamed of His Word, the Bible: For whosoever shall be ashamed of me and of my words, of him shall the Son of man be ashamed, when he shall come in his own glory, and [in his] Father's, and of the holy angels. (Luke 9:26)
